Respiratory Medicine, also known as Pulmonology, is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases affecting the lungs and respiratory system. It focuses on maintaining healthy breathing and managing disorders that affect the airways, lungs, and respiratory muscles. The department provides comprehensive care for both acute and chronic respiratory illnesses through advanced diagnostic techniques, medical therapies, and preventive care.
The Respiratory Medicine Department is equipped with modern facilities such as Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), Bronchoscopy, Sleep Study (Polysomnography), and Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) analysis to evaluate and manage patients accurately. Highly skilled pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, and trained nursing staff provide 24×7 care to patients with severe breathing difficulties or those requiring ventilator or oxygen support.
Common conditions managed include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, sleep apnea, and respiratory failure. The department also works closely with critical care units for patients requiring ventilatory management or post-COVID respiratory rehabilitation.
During the test, small electrodes are placed on the chest, arms, and legs. These electrodes detect the tiny electrical changes caused by each heartbeat. The signals are then sent to a monitor or printed as a graph showing the heart’s rhythm, rate, and pattern. To enhance lung function and breathing capacity.
To reduce respiratory complications and hospitalizations.
To improve the overall quality of life for patients with lung diseases
